ANTIQUE(c.1780) EDO ERA JAPANESE TANSU CHEST DOOR. ALL FORGED IRON

Description

Over two centuries old, this tansu door was once the strong front door to a vault that held a series of drawers that would have held money, documents and other valuables. It is made of a durable sugi (cryptomeria) wood with
hardware made of forged iron with a protective  burnt lacquer finish.  Each hand forged hinge on this door today sells for over and the thick iron straps even more.  Each nail is hand forged with a square shank.
Over two century old with
warm aged patina,
it
remains in
fine original antique condition.
It is wonderful piece of stand alone craftsman art to be displayed by itself or would make a great addition to a box you are crafting.
It measures 18" tall by 9 1/2" wide (wood area)  by 1" deep (46 x 24.5 x 2.5 cm).  A great piece of Japanese history and an interesting
